They Think He'll Blow Our Minds
Jun. 2nd, 2022 10:42 amFor Nexus Prompt: 1. "Are you proud of what you've done?"
"Are you sure you packed enough clothes, love?"
Ted Ronno now protesting a little at carrying his wife's packing case as well as his own because his wife was now booking in their flight at the ticket desk. It was 5am at Heathrow airport and both Elsie and Ted had gotten a train down from the North of England to arrive at London. It had been a long journey but now they had finally made it to the airport. Time to get onto the plane which would take at least 11 hours, possibly more, with a change at New York to get a connection flight to LA. It would be an adventure and a mind-blowing experience for Mick's parents since they have never actually flown before.
"Shut up, Ted. Get your ticket out for the nice lady here. No complaining because Mick wants to see us you know he does."
Ted Ronno shook his head smiling but feeling nervous inside because unlike Mick, he was no famous rock star flying around the world touring and adapting to the new environments. Elsie passed both their tickets to the woman at the desk as they checked in and began their walk towards the plane.
"This will be exciting, Ted. Just us going to America! You've got your boiled sweets, haven't you? With the pressure, like."
Ted nodded and pulled out a bag of humbugs for him to eat while the plane took off so that his ears didn't pop. The couple had read about this sort of thing in the papers and didn't want to get any unnecessary surprises whilst flying for the first time. Soon, the Northern couple were being escorted to their seats while their luggage, which wasn't a great lot, was stored down below in the hold.
"Bloody hell! The plane is massive!"
Elsie elbowed Ted in the ribs slightly for swearing so loudly in public. No need to be rude here. Her husband could be a coarse bloke at times and she didn't want other passengers looking down on the working class Notherners. Once sat down Ted got comfy and pulled out his box of smokes as an air hostess walked past noticing and politely tapping Ted on the shoulder.
"I'm sorry, sir. This flight is no smoking."
Ted looked up frowning with his smoke halfway in his mouth, before snatching it out and huffing, stuffing it back into it's box. Bloody hell! These planes were strict. But at least the air hostess was nice to look at...
"Eh-- stop staring, you dirty old bugger. You've got me and I'm more beautiful than her."
Elsie giving her husband a mocked look of approval before Ted smiled and kissed Elsie on the cheek. Of course he wanted no other woman. There were so many people on the plane it was all rather daunting as the engines roared into life. Time to pop a humbug. Ted now hoping the flight would go well.
"We're meeting up with Ziggy's brother, Jack at New York airport. So best behaviour there."
Both Ted and Elsie sat back in their seats and just wanted to get to Mick as soon as possible as they looked out the small round windows, noticing London getting smaller and smaller.

It was over 12 hours later that they finally reached LA airport and both were quite tired from the long flight and change over. Jack was a handsome man and Elsie had taken a shine to him immediately, noticing just how alike he and Ziggy were. So tall! Ted had tried to make head or tail of Jack but eventually accepted that he was foreign like Ziggy so that's why he was so tall.
"I'm bloody knackered and hungry."
Ted now lighting up a smoke in the airport lobby while their luggage was being wheeled off the conveyer belts. Elsie was tired too but feeling butterflies in her stomach because they were both about to meet their son and Ziggy at the airport. Everything was so shiny and modern here in LA. The floors sparkled and even the air smelled different.
"Shush, Ted. We're meeting our Mick soon. Then, you can eat all you want once we get checked into the hotel."
Ted exhaled a line of smoke above his head then noticed a few airport police walking around just doing the usual security checks. The man nearly spat his smoke out onto the floor with shock.
"They've got---they've got guns, love! Real guns like out of Columbo."
Else laughed softly but the turned to see an LA cop tip his hat to her as he walked past. Well, at least they had manners as well as guns. This was something. Not exactly the Wild West anymore. Everything was a culture shock for the two working class Northerners who's trips out were usually a weekend in Bridlington or another seaside town. This was like another planet. Else squinted a little and noticed a few people walking towards them both.
"Oh---is that Mick? I can see our son I think coming along and Ziggy so tall next to him. Are those some of the other band members too? A shorter lad with blond hair and a stockier man with long black hair and grey sideburns. Goodness!"
It was time for Mick to meet up with his parents. Oh, he should be proud of what he's done! Becoming a famous rock star and now in LA of all places.
